My Classroom

Over the years, my classroom has had to adapt to my student needs and the population I am serving.  While the physical layout may vary, the overall feel of the classroom remains the same.  I strive to make sure that my classroom is a welcoming environment not only for the students on my case load, but for general education students and other adults who may work in the room as well.  It is essential that my classroom be a safe environment where students can be themselves and feel accepted, yet strong enough to take risks and grow as learners and individuals.

With the physical layout of my room, I try to keep it open and allow for easy movement around the room.  I like to provide alternative seating options for students, whether they are traditional chairs, beanbags, pillows, stools, hoki stools, standing, or just sitting on the floor, I want students to feel comfortable while they are learning.  I enjoy having colorful bulletin boards and displays for students rather than keeping walls bare.  I feel it is important to display student work, their accomplishments or artwork, as well as materials to support their educational growth.
